Macon County Eye Center is proud to be the first facility in Macon County to offer the Lasik corrective vision procedure. Dr. Sushant Sinha, is our Lasik surgeon and has had extensive experience with Lasik, as well as PRK. Macon County Eye Center brought this service to Decatur and the surrounding communities starting in 2000, now performed in our new, state-of-the-art surgery center – Advanced Eye Surgery & Laser Center.

Lasik surgery is a procedure which corrects the refractive error of the eye (nearsightedness, farsightedness, or astigmatism) - eliminating or greatly reducing dependency on contact lenses or glasses. An Excimer laser is used to reshape the cornea, the outer window of the eye. This in-office procedure takes only a matter of minutes and the patient is awake and comfortable throughout the process. The eye is numbed with a special anesthesia, a speculum is positioned to hold the eyelid open and an instrument known as a microkeratome is used to separate the surface layers of the cornea, creating a protective flap that is folded back. The patient looks at a target light while the Excimer laser reshapes the corneal tissue. The corneal flap is then placed back into its original position and allowed to dry. The procedure is complete and eye drops will be given to the patient to use and a protective shield will be applied until the post operative visit the next day. Of course, results vary among patients, but most will have functional vision within 1 - 3 days and full vision results are usually realized within 1 - 4 weeks. Although perfect vision is not a guarantee, almost everyone experiences improved vision (with 94% of mild to moderate nearsighted patients seeing clearly without corrective eyewear).
